5. In 2012, the general assembly of Maryland, led by Martin O’Malley, enacted a law legalizing same-sex marriages in Maryland, much to the dismay of many Maryland Christians. Over 52% of Maryland residents voted to approve same-sex marriages which became the law of the land in January 2013. Traditionally, Christians (me included) have long held the stance that marriage is between a man and a woman, citing the Creation Story in Genesis as proof. After all, we say, God did not make Adam for Steve but Adam for Eve.
