Alzheimer disease has had a huge impact on the United States of America. I will be more deeply discussing how this disease is caused and treatment or cure. Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause for dementia in the world. It is responsible for 60 - 80 % of all cases of dementia. Dementia is not a disease, but rather a word to describe a group of symptoms. Alzheimer disease is also the sixth leading cause of death in america (alz.org, 2018). This disease was discovered by Dr. Alois Alzheimer in 1907, however it only became a major disease in 1970. He performed an autopsy on a woman who …show more content…
These can have a great impact on the brain overtime.Very rarely, the disease is caused by a genetic mutation (mayoclinic.org, 2017). A genetic mutation is a change or variation in the nucleotide sequence of an organism's genome. Nucleotides basically are building blocks of deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA. nucleotides are made up of three subunits. A nitrogen base, a sugar molecule, and a phosphate group. The nitrogen bases can be adenine, guanine, cytosine, or thymine. Adenine may only pair with thymine, and cytosine will only pair with guanine when being created . When there is an error in replication, a deletion of genetic information, or insertion or adding of genetic information, it is a genetic mutation. Genetic mutations do no always affect the phenotype of an organism but will affect the genotype. A phenotype is how the gene appears to us. The genotype is the genetic makeup of the
