The research paper focuses on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Alzheimer’s disease is defined by the Alzheimer’s Association (2017), as a mental disorder that troubles the cognitive functions of the memory. It is known for causing memory loss and behavioral traits that are abnormal. The Alzheimer’s Association provides that Alzheimer’s disease is a major cause of death. Besides the numerous efforts that have been put by the relevant stakeholders in managing the disease, research shows that prevalence rates of Alzheimer’s disease are still significantly high. Canada Alzheimer’s society indicates that the prevalence rates of the disease in Canada are also high. Like any other disease, Alzheimer’s disease at its severe stages causes death. In fact, in America, the disease is the 6th leading cause of death. Besides death, there are other adverse effects of Alzheimer’s disease on the family of the victims and the society at large. For instance, most family members of victims of people with Alzheimer’s have reported psychological problems as a result of the challenges they encounter in managing the disease. On the society, Alzheimer’s disease hurts the economy in that a significant amount of the public revenue is consumed in the quest to manage the disease. In America, $259billion in 2017 has been spent on people with Alzheimer’s and other dementia (Alzheimer’s Association, 2017).
