Alpha Kappa Psi Career Fair Essay

This report requested by Michele Bartosek pertains to the Alpha Kappa Psi Career Fair, hosted at Central Michigan University (CMU). While attending my first CMU career fair, I was not actively seeking an internship, but rather gaining experience and building my network.

When I walked into Finch Fieldhouse, I did not expect there to be 143 tables worth of future employers, all squeezed into one gym. Although the Alpha Kappa Psi career fair was extremely overwhelming and stressful, it was beneficial to go as a freshman to understand what I can improve on at the next career fair. Due to this being my first job fair visit, I did not remember either of the two representative’s names. I provided context why I was interested in sparrow: I knew hospitals would have internship opportunities in many fields, as well as that is the hospital that I was born in. When asking about job internships, they provided an instruction sheet on how to apply for the internships. I mentioned that I am a freshman and was hoping an internship would help steer me in a certain direction of business that I am interested in. I explained how my mother works for the state and urged me to consider the wonderful opportunities. My first question to Jeff was when looking at job applications is there more of a focus on work experience or volunteering? He explained that with internships they were not as concerned with these aspects as they would be for someone applying for a full-time job.
