It is always better to choose to be humble than to be compelled to do so because people honor and respect their decision more when they themselves choose to do something. When people are compelled to be humble they often get angry as did the Zoramites. In Alma 35:3 it reads, “[the Zoramites] were angry because of the word, for it did destroy their craft; therefore they would not hearken unto the words.” When people are compelled to do something opposite from what they are currently doing often human nature causes them to do the exact opposite because they do not want to be seen as weak. In the case of the Zoramites, they were being taught about humbling themselves to the teachings of the Lord.…

In his book, Mere Christianity, Lewis (1952) discusses the concept of humility from the perspective of pride, in such a way as to allow the reader understand what humility is not. For example, in the following statement Lewis attempts to explain that pride causes an individual to possess a superiority complex, which seems to remove them from any awareness of others and places focus only on themselves, “The real black, diabolical Pride comes from when you look down on others so much that you do not care what they think of you,” he continues by speaking specifically about Christians, “Whenever we find that our religious life is making us feel that we are good- above all, that we are better than someone else – I think we may be sure that we are being acted on, not by God, but by the devil The real test of being in the presence of God is that you either forget about yourself altogether or see yourself as a small, dirty object. You see, I had been in Kiera’s position not so long ago. I knew what it felt like to be told I wasn’t good enough, that because of my past God couldn’t use me, especially not in a ministry setting. All it took was one person to pour truth and words of affirmation into me for me to realize the plans the Lord had for me. I wanted so badly for Kiera to hear this message and I knew by the end of the week that she had. Kiera’s entire demeanor had changed and she was beginning to throw away her fears.…

This verse, and the context surrounding it, is one of my favorites for the emotion of its story, and its importance to my understanding of the nature of God. The martyrdom of the righteous ammonites is one of the most horrible events described in the Book of Mormon; I can’t imagine what a test of faith it would have been for Alma and Amulek to not take action to prevent it. The fact that they stayed their hands is one of the strongest testimonies of the perfection of the plan of salvation that I know of, because the only way they possibly could have is through knowing that the martyred were truly being received unto God in glory. Alma’s explanation in verse 10 is crucial to LDS doctrine, because it provides an explanation for evil being allowed…

The Lakota culture has seven virtues, including humility. C.S. Lewis, author of Narnia, once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” Many people associate humility with embarrassment and hanging your head. The actual definition of humility, however is, “a modest or low view of one’s own importance.” In the older times, humility was recognized just as the definition implies: modesty.…

The excerpt from Antigone is very valuable because it can be used in our everyday life. If you make a mistake own up to it , don’t act like you don’t realize your fault. In Antigone , Creon was really arrogant and he didn’t want to listen to anyone’s advice , and so him not heeding wise words people ended up dead. Now something like that probably won’t happen if you’re being stubborn , or arrogant but that doesn’t mean something bad might not happen. For example ; My brother left his plate out on the table in our living room , so I told him he should throw it away but he didn’t he just said “ It’ll be fine.”…
