Allopurinol Research Paper

Normally allopurinol should be avoided when patients have gout attacks. It has been reported that it can make patients worse, especially at first. So we use colchicine instead as prophylactic drugs. Moreover, gradual titration the dose is recommended to get full effect. The patient should start allopurinol 100 mg daily then 100 mg increase per week until the uric acid level reach 6 mg/dl or lower but not over 800 mg which is the maximum dose.
