Allison Piscitelli Argumentative Essay

Most people think of Halloween as a fun holiday where you get to dress up and get free candy. But for Allison Piscitelli it was a frightening day for her as well as family and friends. On October 31st, 2013 Allison Piscitelli had to go through one of the toughest surgeries ever. Piscitelli had to get a heart surgery. She had to get her aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve and they had to replace an aortic aneurysm with a plastic root. All taking place 6 hours away from everything she knew in Cleveland, Ohio. By the age of 6 Piscitelli found out she had heart problems. Since she found out as a child she was limited from many physical things. She couldn’t do anything with sports. She had said that at the state fair one year when …show more content…
As she did her yearly tests including CT scans. A CT scan stands for computed tomography is an x-ray image of the body using special x-ray equipment that is used to detect diseases and conditions. When Piscitelli had gone for her yearly CT scan she received frightening news. “My heart had enlarged,” she stated, “It wasn’t working normally.” Now the question is, where to go from here? The first thing Piscitelli did was to research the best cardiac hospital in America which happened to be in Pennsylvania's neighboring state of Ohio. Cleveland, Ohio to be exact. Through that hospital she had to find the best heart doctor which was Dr. Svensson Lars. Dr. Svensson has done surgery on great stars including Robin Williams and several basketball players. Then the time came when they had to drive off to Ohio. “The hardest part about getting the surgery done was that I had to leave my daughter Grace.” Her daughter Grace, now 13 was at home in West Lawn, PA while her parents and grandmother went to Ohio. “I didn’t want anything to change her if something …show more content…
She has gotten so many life lessons through this experience. Allison had to quit her job as a 5th grade teacher at Fleetwood Middle School because she couldn’t get sick. Allison was a good teacher as Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress. Many of the students were sad to see her go.
Allison wanted to thank everybody that has helped her and guided her to where she is today. She wanted to thank Dr. Sphenson doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic, John Piscitelli, Beatrice Longenecker, Grace Piscitelli, Heather Matz, the Brown’s, the Piscitelli’s, Fleetwood friends, Beach Bunch, the Owls family, doctors and nurses at John Hopkins Hospital, the Lebo’s, the Serrano’s, the Cipolla's, the Miele’s, the Wenger’s, Juvenile Probation Office, the Ervin’s, and lastly Brooks and Sonny.
