It was a peaceful day in a shabby condo. Kade and I were sitting in his room. An hour of AP Social Studies homework and 7th grade English homework in when a gust of wind came through the closed window. How do I put this, there was a noise. A very fuzzy, subtle noise. A ZING, SWOOSH, SHUUAH noise. All of a sudden, out popped two people. The women said to us in a serene voice, “We are your parents. We want to take you home.”
My brother and I were abandoned when he was 6 months old. One morning my father was making me chocolate chip pancakes and the next, I was alone. Imagine a five year old calling 911 saying your parents were abducted by aliens. That’s what I wanted to believe. After I turned 10, I realized that every prayer wasn’t worth it.

It was clear. Like a portal. I stood in amazement. My mom can walk through walls! We were quick to follow. Once we were through, our eyes came instantly upon missiles, fighter jets, and machine guns. “Welcome to the War Effort.”
My parents sent us off with some lady named Marge. They told us not to worry, and they would be back soon. But I was worried. I didn’t know what would happen. Would they leave me again? “This is where you will be staying the next couple days. General Parker and your mother will be back soon. They were called to go inspect some village protesters turned violent. Lincoln will be here soon to give you your training schedules. You are now part of the Rebellion. Enjoy your stay!” I was left baffled.
“BREACH! BREACH! Squads Alpha and Phoenix are down. General and Misses Parker are down. I repeat down!” Kade and I were awakened to sirens blistering in our ears. There was a note left on the table for us from Lincoln. “When you wake up meet me in Sector 7 -L”. We raced outside to see Marge in a panic. She came over to us with a horrified look on her face. “ There has been an attack from the Imperials. Bombs, guns, and missiles. I’m afraid to tell you that your parents. Your parents. Are dead.” And I’m lying on the gray, tile

“Good, good. Now who are you fighting against?”
“The Imperials.”
“Now channel all of that energy into your thoughts and think of freezing this apple with the palms of your hands.”
This was ridiculous, but I do it anyway. I channel all of my hatred and BLAST. The apple falls, frozen, from the podium. I stand there, amazed. Lincoln is clapping “There you go.” All of a sudden I hear a “COOL!!” from across the hall where Kade is training. I race over there to see what he is doing. The whole side of the wall is on fire. Kade stands there with the largest grin on his face. “How, how, HOW DID YOU DO THAT!!” I stutter. “I don’t know, but it was awesome.”
“This is the real reason your parents brought you here.” Lincoln chimes in. “They knew you had these powers all along and with the Imperials here and the war favouring them, they needed you.”
“What does this mean?”
“You are Dimension 3’s new heroes! Subzero and The

“How ‘bout them apples?”- One of the most famous lines in recent movie history was asked in a scene from the film Good Will Hunting that showcases an extremely effective example of the commonly used idiom “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. In order to impress onlookers and make a fool out of a local “townie” character of clearly inferior intelligence, a man that has been costumed to fit the character of “Ivy League graduate student” to a tee is begins to reference obscure academic literature in the local Harvard bar that both characters are patrons of. When the graduate student picks an intellectual argument with the uneducated townie, the writers bring in the townie’s friend and the film’s protagonist, a genius having trouble harnessing…

The blue midnight sky was glistening with infinite stars that lay above my slanted head as I watched the twilight moon above me. Glancing down my hand, catching sight of the time gave me the realization that this was actually happening. Months of preparation, years of mental training and the day had come faster than ever. My mind and heart were trapped in the though and mission of protecting and defending my country, the country that gave me everything and was everything. I was 22, they call me Mailto Sonu with a passion of going into the military as a young child, and the curiosity filled in my head of what it would feel like to stand on the rusty, rough, and coarse sand.…

The Battle of Liberty (Confederate Victory) The date was September 17, 1861. I remember only because I wrote a letter home that very morning. I could tell early that day that things were brewing, all the men could. This was going to be the day I would be Called to Arms. I enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard in October of ’97 as a Fire Support Specialist.
