Alice Sawyer Case

Her conscience slowly attacking her for her recent choice to pick up a new case, Alice hustled out of work and into her car. An intelligent woman at the least, Alice Sawyer possesses a job as a personal investigator at her own agency. The perfect life is what many would say, a loft in the city, recently married, and doing very well financially, Alice was the epitome of a perfect person. Little did she know, taking on Jane Russell’s case would flip her life upside down. A black suburban, blacked out windows, and a license plate of 4R5 6YT. Nothing out of the ordinary in downtown Chicago, but definitely not familiar to Alice. All the way home and next to her loft, lurking just far enough back to be unidentified, the car followed her. Thinking nothing of the events that happened the night before, Alice woke up the next the morning and performed the same things she did every morning; shower, brush her teeth, make her oatmeal, prepare her coffee, and drive to work. The white snow was falling delicately on the gray cement of the concrete jungle that is Chicago. On her way to work to meet with Jane Russell, she did not notice a black suburban. Once she arrived, Jane was already lingering in her office to meet with her, which she thought was very strange because there was no one else in the office. …show more content…
Russell, how are you today?” Alice questioned. “Very well, thank you for asking. I had a very frightening nightmare, but all that I can recall is a black figure. It was very strange and I’m not quite sure how to feel about it,” said Mrs. Russell with a very suspicious look on her

On September 23rd, 2011, Teresa Lewis, a citizen of Danville, Virginia, was pronounced dead by lethal-injection at approximately 9:13 p.m. (Crawford 74). Being that 46 executions took place in 2010, Teresa Lewis’s case would seem indifferentiable to the others; however, evaluations of Lewis’s mental state incited controversy based on the morality of her case (“The Death Penalty…”). The controversy erupted after Lewis’s defense lawyer filed a position for clemency briefly after disclosing that she had an I.Q. of 72, providing the justification that Lewis “did not possess the intelligence to have planned for the killings” (“US woman Teresa…”). Much to the dismay of her defense lawyers, family, and advocates, Teresa Lewis still underwent lethal injection for conspiring to murder her husband and stepson.…

“Well, I hit on Andover as the first town because it seemed like a quiet and likely spot where an old, frail little lady who owned a shop would be killed. I found Mrs. Ascher when I was in that town for personal business about a few months ago, and I had noticed that she was often in her little shop alone. For letter B, I had to use slightly different tactics. By now, lonely women in shops would have been warned about a killer on the loose, so I had to change the characteristics of my next victim. I often visited tea shops and cafes, where I began to notice girls with names who began with the right letter.…

Excerpt from The Great Fire by Jim Murphy It was Sunday and an unusually warm evening for October eighth, so Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan left his stifling little house in the west side of Chicago and went to visit neighbors. One of his stops was at the shingled cottage of Patrick and Catherine O’Leary. The one-legged Sullivan remembered getting to the O’Learys’ house at around eight o’clock, but left after only a few minutes because the O’Leary family was already in bed. Both Patrick and Catherine had to be up very early in the morning: he to set off for his job as a laborer; she to milk their five cows and then deliver the milk to the neighbors.…
