The Library Of Alexandria was one of the biggest libraries of the Ancient World. The library was introduced in 288 BCE 35 years after Alexander the great died. When Alexander was building Alexandria he had a vision of an abundance of men coming from different cities for their food and their crops. Unfortunately he died too soon to see his beautiful creation come to life. When Alexander died his empire was divided amongst his generals but instead of ruling together they divided the kingdom and ruled separately Ptolemy became the king of Egypt. Ptolemy was a person who loved to learn and had an especially large love for science. Going against Alexander’s wishes for his land, because Ptolemy was such a lover of learning he decided to make Alexandria

When the first three Ptolemies ruled over Alexandria the library was in its blooming days, intelligent people and scientists were attracted to the library for all it had to offer. In 49 B.C.E. a civil war broke out, in 59 B.C.E Alexandria was under the rule of Ptolemy XIII and Cleopatra. But a civil war was coming, because both of the rulers wanted to rule Egypt alone. Cleopatra left Egypt to create her own army, her and Ptolemy faced each other at Pelusium. When they were gone Caesar moved into the palace and brought his guards to stand guard. Ptolemy came back and when he discovered Caesar there he marched his army into Alexandria where they would outnumber Caesars thousand or so troops. then the war with Cleopatra would continue, but that’s not what Cleopatra planned. she sneaked away from Pelusium to go to Alexandria where she then had a friend role her up in some carpets and carry her into the palace. When the carpets were given to Caesar they were unrolled and Cleopatra met Caesar. Caesar took Cleopatra's side probably because she was smart and able enough to sneak into the castle and that put the both of them at war with Cleopatra. Caesar sent for reinforcements but they didn't come by the time Ptolemy and his army had reached Alexandria. Caesar's troops held off the invasion on the palace. Caesar was trapped and in his position he made a move that would change the course of history, as well as make him one of the best generals of his time. He set fire to the egyptian fleet but all of a sudden the wind picked up and carried the fire; the flames went over houses jumping from building to building it couldn't be stopped it didn't stop until the pride of the city and of the Ptolemies, The center of intellectual life went up in
