Prior to our arrival, Officer Banuelos #0789 arrived on scene and detained the Suspect, later identified as Alex Canawati. Canawati was standing on the sidewalk, in front of apartment #1, with his backpack and belongings strewn on the sidewalk.
Upon our arrival I asked Canawati what he was doing at the apartment complex. Along with numerous other incoherent statements Canawati said, “She’s my wife duh, I’ve come to see my kids.” Victim-1, who Canawati was referring to as his wife, was standing on her front door step. Canawati could not give us the name of which hospital he was seen at. He stated he was given medication from the hospital for depression. I recovered two different medications that were prescribed to Canawati, Quetiapine Fumerate, 400mg pills, and Bupropion HCL, 300mg pills. Both medications were later given to the Pasadena Jail Staff to keep with Canawati’s property. Quetiapine Fumerate is also known as Seroquel and is prescribed for bi-polar disorder. Bupropion HCL, also known as Wellbutrin, is prescribed as an anti-depressant medication.
Due to the incoherent and irrational statements that Canawati was making, his admittance to having a mental disorder and the comments of the radio call, we detained Canawati for a WIC 5150 investigation.
