The troops led by Castus and Gannius were defeated by Crassus and the battle of Cantenna. During this time, the force led by Spartacus was had net been completely trapped, and still had at least 30,000 troops who were able to fight. The final battle took place somewhere in Upper Silarus Valley, Spartacus used his cavalry to attack the missiles throwers and archers that belonged to Crassus and then went forward in an attempt to kill Crassus and break his army. Crassus had however built trenches in an attempt to prevent Spartacus from crossing over, Spartacus then decided to organize his army for a battle with Crassus. The cavalry belonging to Spartacus however failed to reach the missile throwers and archers belonging to Crassus. In his final attempt, he hacked down two centurions but this was in vain, Spartacus was surrounded and killed. Following his death, his army fell apart and Crassus together with other Roman forces decided to hunt down the remaining rebels. The body of Spartacus was however not identified and was buried in a mass grave together with his troops
