One key factor in drug delivery to the lung is particle size.5 In order for a drug to enter the bronchial tree, the size of the drug particle must range between 1-5 µM. Particles that are less than 1 µM typically remain suspended in the air, while particles that are greater than 5 µM are not able to travel deep into the lungs thus the drug therapy is not effective. They are one of the leaders in pulmonary drug delivery systems. Their devices, the Aerogen Solo and the Aerogen Ultra, are currently being used in hospitals around the world. These devices can be used with nebulizer devices commonly found at various healthcare settings. Based on clinical studies, patients who utilized nebulization treatment with Aerogen products received on average 9-times more drug delivery into the lungs than conventional device types like jet and ultrasonic nebulizers.7 What makes these products unique is the vibrating mesh technology. The vibrating mesh can take a single drop of a liquid (or aerosol) drug and convert it into millions of smaller particles. As stated previous, particle size is an important factor in pulmonary drug delivery. Hence, more drug can be delivered using the standard dose of a
