These politicians believed that support of the environment was key to their party’s success. In the same New York Times article where Gore mentioned the family discussions about pesticide use, Gore stated that he believed that the issues of global warming and protection of the environment would be able to cut through political party lines. Gore garnered the support of Democrats, many moderate Republicans, and citizens of all income levels. When critics implied that Gore was simply jumping on the environmental bandwagon, Gore showed that his record in Congress was more focused on doing what was right for the environment than what was right for his political career.
