Social And Cultural Interview Report

I had the pleasure to interview Ajamil Sapthotharan who is currently living and working in England. Now he is working as an assistant manager in a local restaurant near London. According to his experience he found it very interesting to communicate with international people as UK is a country with high level of living than in his own country. The most thing he was concerned about before coming to England was a language. He was worried about that he might not understand the accent. The other thing he was concerned about was an ethics, because Indians are quite closed and religious. So there might be things which are probably not ethically correct for Indians are considered as normal and common in England. The other thing that Ajamil Sapthotharan found difficult was a training which he was participating when he arrived to England. He had to switch to a different was of learning and doing work. However he explains that later when he started to be more open and he began communicating to new people which made his presence in a new country much easier. Some cultures expect the guest to be early and others expect the host to be early in order to demonstrate respect. Certain cultures show interest through eye contact and body language, whereas other cultures show respect and attention by closing their eyes and sitting still. These types of cultural differences in business are essential to be acquainted with when communicating with a business colleague of a different culture. If one were to make a slight error according to the opposing culture, it could be crucial or even fatal for the business relationship. Consequently, it is vital for an employee who will be in contact with new cultures to be aware of certain cultural differences in
