a. Objectives and Scope AirAsia is a malaysian low-cost airline. It scheduled domestic and international flights and is Asia’s largest low fare airline. Nowadays, MIS is a significant factor that influence the airlines system. In this article, the writer will focused on the online booking department that generized with the MIS system. AirAsia has currently adopted information technologies strategically to integrate the operations and coordinate to the business and management function.

Porter’s Value Chain
Porter’s value chain focused on systems and how inputs are changed into the outputs purchased by consumers. There are nine areas in porter’s value chain, they are : firm infrastructure, human resource management, technology development, procurement, inbound logistic, operations, outbound logistics, marketing & sales, and services.

Primary activities relate directly to the physical creation, sale, maintenance and support of a product or service. They consists :
1. Inbound logistics – these are all the processess related to receiving, storing, and distributing inputs internally. The supplier relationships are a key factor in creating value here.
2. Operations – these are transformation activities that change inputs into outputs that are sold to customers. Here the operational systems create value.
3. Outbound logistics – these activities deliver the product or service to the customers. These are things like collection, storage, and distribution systems, and may be internal and external in the organization.
4. Marketing and sales – these are the processes used to persuade clients to purchased from the company instead the competitors. The benefits offered, and how well communicated are source of value

Instead of going to a brick-and-mortar travel agency and manually buying flight and hotel tickets, an individual can simply online to order the tickets. There is no need to discuss the matter with another person. The process of online booking sidesteps many of the usual inconveniences and saves time.
Advantages on Online Booking Systems:
1. Double booking or over booking should not happen in a real-time booking system
2. Immediate feedback on availability of seats or flights
3. Customer can book online using an interactive website
4. Customers can phone the booking office who can then offer immediate advice and availability
5. Booking system can be tied in to email so customers can be informed of their booking and perhaps other events they may be interested in.
Disadvantage on Online Booking System :
1. The booking system will most likely be very expensive to install as they tend to be custom-made.
2. If the booking can be made over the phone, then staff have to be trained to use the system
3. For online booking, a well-designed website needs to be put in place that has direct connection to the database.
4. Needs to be very reliable. If the system breaks down for some reason, then a lot of business can be
