Air Force Academy Application Essay Examples

I can say with confidence that I should be considered for a nomination for The United States Air Force Academy. I know that I would make an ideal cadet and I’ll tell you why. I may look like just another number, but I’m not just any student looking to go to the academy because my parents did or because I want paid college. I want to go to the academy because I am an engineering student and I found out the hard way that where you go to college really does make a difference. I found out the long way that the Air Force academy would be the best place for my abilities and learning style. I finished high school as seventh in my class with seven years worth of high school science, 5 years worth of high school math, two years in National Technical …show more content…
Commute to UMass Amherst where I can get a decent education and save money. This is where I am now. At UMass I’ve joined the UMass Transit team where I earned my CDL at only the age of 19 and get to support the community by getting people where they need to go who would otherwise be stuck walking or not getting that job interview. Soon I will also be a volunteer firefighter for the Amherst Fire Department. My point in telling you all of this isn’t to ramble on on about all my achievements as to say “look at how smart and impressive I am!” I’m telling you this to show you I know what it takes to succeed, I know how to be independent and get what needs to be done done, and most importantly I’ve already began my engineering studies and have the experience and knowledge of what it means to study higher education. With that said I’m writing to you now because I know how I learn and what I need to do to be successful in my education. I’m not happy with where I am now. UMass is a wonderful school but the classes are too big for me and I feel like a number. I feel disconnected from my university and it’s making learning a miserable

I am applying for a commission in the Army JAG Corps to continue my interrupted service to our country. I was brought up with a very strong sense of selfless service to our nation and to my community. I was fortunate to be able to proudly serve our country with distinction for 17 years on active duty and in the Reserves (12 or 13 good years for retirement purposes) but unfortunately I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life in 2007 and leave the service. At the time, I had a family with three young children, a high pressure long hours job in a large law firm, a high tempo reserve assignment in PSYOP (two mobilizations in four years), and an elderly father with late stage Alzheimer’s which required immense time and effort…
