As a result of my injuries, I had a lot of pain running and my performance was not as successful as I envisioned it to be. I still ran my distance events and was part of a state ranked 4x800 team, however, I was not running as well as I had hoped. Instead of giving up, I looked at other events I could try that would not be as damaging to my shins. After seeing the puzzling event called the racewalk in one of my meets, I decided to try it. My first meet doing the racewalk did not go very well, with me ending my mile walk in 9:27. I was disappointed with myself for not having a faster time and was tempted to give up, but my coach encouraged me to continue. Sticking with challenges and refusing to admit defeat without giving it everything I had was one of the skills I developed from running on a team. Working with my team and coaches guidance I was able to qualify for New Balance Nationals and opened up my season to many more opportunities. By the end of the season, I placed 2nd in States and ranked 8th in the entire nation with a personal best putting me on the top 20 national leader board of all time.
