Evaluation Critique 1: After-School All Stars Program: Summative Evaluation
After School All Stars was founded in 1992 by Arnold Schwarzenegger, “ASAS provides year-round school based comprehensive after school programs (Jones & Polonsky 2008). After-School All Stars provides school-based after school programming to over 70,000 public school students in 13 cities. ASAS schools offer a minimum of one enrichment activity from every domain for a total of at least eight hours of programming each week for a minimum of 20 weeks during the course of the academic year (Jones & Polonsky 2008). Along with eight hours a week of regular ASAS program, ASAS offers eight “Elite” ASAS schools that offer 15 hours of more intensive programing.

These strengths include categorizing evaluation by activities and other after school programs, to have all variables represented. Another is the amount of data the evaluators were able to collect through gpa, test scores, attendance, and surveys by staff, and students. Through surveys by staff and students ASAS received a favorable response with positive views by students and ASAS schools wanting to continue programing for the following year. In regards to student surveys using computer technology instead of head writing would help with difficulty inn deciphering surveys. Using a staffer to sit with each student to supervise data collection from students, to achieve correct and efficient data. This could be costlier in the end, but will provide for a more accurate data collection. The ASAS evaluation can give brake down of financial contributors to the program and how funding is provided for activities and staff. Going into reasons why individuals participated in program and others did not, by surveying nonparticipants with a staff member on family household, economic status, family support and transportation. These surveys can connect with those not in ASAS to create future participants by providing inclusivity of
