African Lions live in groups called prides. Lions are relatives of the cat family. They live in thick grasslands, open woodlands and other habits. These habits helps with hiding and hunting. Lions hunt antelope, baby elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and rhinos. Only adults lions are strong enough to kill elephants. Most of the time, lions don't like to hunt. They steal food from hyenas, leopards and other predators. Lioness are the ones who go out and hunt for the pride. Then it is the lion's job to stay and take care of their young, while the lioness hunts for her family. When the female brings back the kill, the lion takes over the food . Then he gives the leftover food to his family. Sometimes the hyenas will take the kill from the lions. …show more content…
The manes protect the male lion during fights, It is also used to intimidate other male lions. As the male lion gets older, his manes changes to a darker color. This often leads to another male lion trying to take his place in the pride. Male lions will fight each other until one gives in from severe injury or death. Then the winner of the of the fight, become the new king of the pride. Male lions like to sleep during daylight hours, and hunt at night. They can sleep up to 20 hours in a 24 hour period.
