African American Maids

In the book, The Help Miss Skeeter and Aibileen have an unyielding bond even though Miss Skeeter is white and Aibileen is African-American. Miss Skeeter lives at home with her mother and father and writes an article for the Junior League. Aibileen lives by herself and works for Elizabeth Leefolt. Aibileen has been working for white families all her life and has raised seventeen children. Aibileen is raising her eighteenth and nineteenth child who is Mae Mobley and Raleigh. Mae Mobley is a girl and Raleigh is a boy. When Miss Skeeter has the idea of writing a book about African American maids the first person she interviews is Aibileen. By having a positive relationship with each other they were able to keep the fear factor out of their head and write the book and hopefully change people's opinion on African Americans. By having a strong relationship they were able to do their best and even allow many others to do their best. Aibileen was friends with a great number of African Americans maids so she asked other maids to come be interviewed by Miss Skeeter for the book they are writing. Therefore by Miss Leefolt and Aibileen has a strong relationship they were able to reflect on others to do their best for the interview for the book. Also in the later part of the book Miss Skeeter was offered a job in New York and she was not sure if she was going to go, but Aibileen told Miss Skeeter to go up to New York because Aibileen wanted what was best for Miss Skeeter. The author wants us to learn that we can be friends with anyone, no matter what skin color they have. Also not judge someone by the color of their skin or to not judge a book by its cover. If Miss Skeeter would have judged Aibileen by her skin color and not got to know that Aibileen has the biggest heart out of anyone she has ever met then they would have been able to write the
