Affleck stuck to his morals, even if it wasn't the best decision ever. You got to respect his character for that.
But all those plot twists with the drug dealers just confused the hell out of me. It was way too much. But I thought the ending was perfect. You can tell that he regrets his decision a little bit but you know he'll never admit it out loud. But he admits it a little bit by watching over Amanda in the end.
Casey can report the parent to child services, etc., and what not but that's up the law and rules that society create and not up to Casey's character to do. The courts should decide who should have the child and I don't see how Morgan Freeman's character can determine as well that he is a better fit parent. If he thinks so then he should use the law. There's a grey area if you allow individuals to determine what's best for the child and not use the law. If Casey is allow passing judgment on the mom and taking the child away or keep her with Morgan Freeman then that just opens a can of
