Aerosmith Recovery

How would your life change if you went from being an average individual to a member of a rock band? For the various members of Aerosmith, their lives have altered and continue to alter each and every day- mostly for the good, of course. Each of the eight members of the band have issues they face together and issues they face alone, from members coming and leaving to dealing with personal matters. This is shown in their albums, Get a Grip and Done with Mirrors, just to name a couple. Due to the changes and challenges within the career of Aerosmith, recovery is a process they endure regularly.

The band's fifteenth album, Get a Grip, released April 20, 1993 shows how they overcame drug abuse (Waller). This album was recorded twice by reason of the producers not being fond of the first finished recording (Sheffield). In the 1980’s the band started to suffer the effects of drugs, leading to negative effects for not only the individual, but also the band as a whole (Sheffield). The band was affected by not being able to seriously record songs when one or more of them was drugged up, people hearing about their drug abuse and spreading rumors about them, and much more. They had suffered years with drug abuse and luckily now drugs are not an issue whatsoever. To be more specific, one of their songs on this album, “Fever”, refers to having a wonderful time without drugs and specifically how Steven Tyler deserted drugs to do more enjoyable things in life, such as be with girls. Additionally, the song “Amazing” written by band leader Tyler, exemplifies his unsettled life with the issues of Perry and Whitford leaving the band and drugs; “I kept the right ones out and let the wrong ones in...there were times in my life when I was goin' insane, tryin' to walk through the pain (Tyler). ” While they were under serious delays of recording songs due to drugs scenarios, Tyler pronounced this- “Let’s not get a bag of coke and do it all night so we have the unfinished tapes in the morning. Let’s stay in this room and lock ourselves in and not leave until we got a song” (Sheffield). Since drugs are something that you can easily get addicted to and rely on, it was hard for them to get away from it, until this album was written. The album, Get a Grip, shows Aerosmith’s successful return back into the world of music and acts as musical therapy for them. Within this album, they included many songs, “Cryin’”, “Amazing”,

The sixth song is called “Back in Black” this song starts with the dumber taping the symbols as the melody starts and one of the most famous guitar riffs comes blazing, as this fast pace song gives you a rush of adrenaline. Lyrically is hard to fallow as it sounds like rap and some of the lyrics are hard to understand but what I understand it is about getting back in the rock and roll party life. The seventh song is called “You Shook Me All Night Long” song starts with a guitar melody as it builds up as the song takes off, the lyrics talk about a guy picking up a girl and having a one-night stand, moreover so far this is the memorable and easier song to follow.
