Failed: Kendal Jenner’s Pepsi Commercial (2017) Advertising is a paid form of non-personal communication about an organization, product, service, or idea by an identified sponsor. It can be a great forum to communicate to mass audiences in order to get a message across. Successful commercials are sometimes controversial, but then some commercials miss the mark completely, like Kendall Jenner’s banned commercial with Pepsi. The commercial centers around some sort of march that is taking place, showing people from all walks of life, different races, religions, and occupations being unified by the desire to change and their sweet love for Pepsi. The commercial automatically attracts viewers’ attention by introducing a playful, curious puppy that sets itself apart from the rest of the puppies in the commercial. The little pup constantly breaks through a fence constantly to go to a neighboring stable to see a Clydesdale horse, a new friend of the dog. This sweet and pure relationship between the horse and the puppy make Budweiser more family friendly rather than being a typical beer commercial, other beer commercials usually containing half naked women and overly masculine ideas. This idea portrays that Budweiser is a “family-oriented” though you have to be a certain age to drink, it presents the idea that this is an appropriate drink to consume around family. As the story continues, the viewer becomes more enthralled with the outcome of the dog like, “will the dog be adopted” or “what will happen with the horse and the dog?” This interest promotes wanting to support the company and their message: friendship in unexpected places. The commercial goes on to show the dog constantly breaking into the stable and a handsome ranch hand has to take him back to the adoption center, laughing at the puppy’s determination. The commercial shows a man in the process of adopting the strong-minded puppy, but his friend the Clydesdale horse notices him leaving and rounds up the other horses. At the end of the commercial, the puppy and the horses come trotting back to the ranch hands property, leading to the ranch hand to adopt the dog, sealing the friendship of the dog and the horse. There really isn’t any language in the commercial besides soft background music, but the commercial does not use language to sell the product. The visuals of the commercial really sell the product by offering beautiful scenery, attractive actors, and cute animals. All of these visuals produce a wholesome
