When everything is the same within the community, Sameness is more of a disadvantage than an advantage because no one would have freedom of choice. Giver affirms, “‘You don’t know what snow is, do you?’ ” (Lowry 75). When there sameness, there would not be winter. When there winter, the snow makes it hard to grow food. That also means that, there are not many seasons the people spend. The unpredictable weather makes it hard to grow food and made transportation hard to have. That why the community leaders declared that this is not sameness. Which means that the kids would not have an opportunity to play with snow. Playing with snow is a childhood memory that mostly everyone has in this world. Not having unpredictable weather makes life boring. Everyone knows what weather it would be. Having unpredictable weather, makes the people wonder what the weather might be and makes life more interesting. Giver states that, “‘You’re beginning to see the color red.’ ” (Lowry 89). Having color is not Sameness in their community. The community thinks that having color allows people to know the difference between people. They think that having color will lead to discrimination. People will know everyone difference, so the community thinks that not sameness. Having no color will make people life dull. What people wear represents who they are.
