Coca Cola, founded back in 1892, is the worlds largest soft drink retailer. The coca cola company is extremely large, which means their factories are spread all over the world. They are located in various less developing countries, but the main focus will be on Lagos. Lagos suffers from large amounts of poverty, lack of clean water and economic development. Coca Cola has been running there for a while now, and over the past 3-4 years, protests against Coca Cola have occurred, mainly about working conditions and extremely low wages. Workers complained about no time off, continuous attendance at work each and everyday.The average wage per day is about US $2.60 (N400), therefore their annual wage is $949(N146,000). Workers say this is not enough to support their families, and they must rely on other family members in order to support each other. These are very common problems with all LDC’s, being treated badly, or not receiving enough. According to the workers, there is no safety gear provided, hence when there is an injury, nothing can be done. Speaking of injuries, no health insurance is provided, so these injuries must be treated by the person himself, with his own wages and help.
