Imagine that you recently had a car accident and you were partially responsible. If you had to write and tell your parents about the accident, what might you say? Imagine how you might tell the story differently to your friends, or insurance company. Which details would you share with each group and which would you leave out? Would the order in which you told the various details be different? As one can see in this story, the way the story is told depends on a how one want to appeal to a specific audience.

This project was a bit difficult in understanding the difference between a research proposal, and an action proposal. Our goal was to write and action proposal, which started out with one failure after another. The first failure was too little of information, lacking support to influence and audience to see the big picture. The second failure was adding a bunch of irrelevant information turning this into a research proposal and losing our audience in the mountains of information. In stepping back and looking at the purpose, the group recognized that the audience was key to developing this project. In working with a team, each member has to put aside his or her own needs in order to focus on the larger goals of the team (Guest, 2016). Because I am such a type A personality type person this at times was a bit difficult to maintain and constantly had to step back and look at my strengths and weaknesses.
I have spent many years in an industry that has required fair to good writing skills, one has to be very deliberate in the delivery of communication to avoid misunderstandings. With this said, my strength in my writing skills, and understanding what needs to be done on each of these group writing projects exceeded the group’s ability. In the first project, I really dominated the direction and picking up the slack the group was failing in. As a result, I ended up doing most of the work on the project and took the accountability away from my team when they failed to step up. This turned out to be a weakness on my part as well, I ended up taking away a learning opportunity from my team mates and did not give them the opportunity to really show if they could step
