The Holocaust is primarily credited to Adolf Hitler, however there was a group of Nazis working alongside him to make his twisted dream a reality. Among the few men Hitler trusted was Heinrich Himmler. These two, with some help from fellow leading Nazi’s, were capable of creating such tragedy that affected millions. Heinrich Himmler was born into your average family in Munich, Germany on October 7, 1900. He went to school in 1922 and earned a degree in agriculture from the Technical University in Munich. Himmler was old enough to serve in the war by the last few days of World War One. Heinrich joined the Nazi party a year after attending school and earning his degree in agriculture. This decision would set up a chain of events that resulted in the shocking, cruel period in history that was the Holocaust. From 1925 to 1930, he was propaganda leader for the Nazis in Bavaria, Swabia and the Palatinate. Himmler gained Hitler’s respect due to his enthusiasm toward the creation of a perfect aryan race and his willingness to help and follow orders. Heinrich became Adolf Hitler’s right hand man. Almost yearly, Hitler would appoint Heinrich to a higher rank with more power. In 1929, he was chosen to be Reichsführe, or chief of the Schutzstaffel. He was ordered to create the Security Service (Sicherheitsdienst; SD) of the Nazi Party in the summer 1931. Himmler established the SS Race and Settlement Office that following winter, which determined eligibility for entry into the SS and established the SS as a private racial elite. Probably the biggest responsibility given to Himmler was the being founder and officer-in-charge of several killing centers or death camps, in which he constructed and put into operation 5 killing centers or death camps including Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, and Chelmno. Despite all of the glory Himmler was basking in, the achievement and success eventually turned to a downhill spiral. The Nazi’s were being exposed Courtney 3 and paying for their crimes. In April of 1945, Himmler attempted to transmit an offer of surrender to the commander-in-chief of the allied forces in hopes of avoiding prosecution. Because of the Holocaust, it is proven that few people can make significant change, parents influence their children greatly, and love should always be chosen over hatred.
