Purpose: The article seeks to see how different psychosocial situations effect teens. The main area of study is use of tobacco. It also uses theories in order to explain the reasons for teens usage of cigarettes and other related products.

More than twice as many people use tobacco products compared to considering themselves smokers. This is because society has developed an odd double standard. Part of this is the rising popularity of hookah and cigarillos. There was a high correlation between people trying tobacco in their adolescence and their family members smoking. The majority of people who smoked in their adolescence said it was easy to obtain their tobacco products of choice. In spite of the health risks people often buy tobacco for minors. There was a direct correlation where it seemed most people whose friends smoked had also tried it. This surprised me but it reminds me of how adolescents are particularly susceptible to peer pressure. The literature added to my understanding of adolescent development. The questionnaire was even more insightful. Of the people who tried quitting most said it was not hard. In spite of this a lot of them are still using tobacco products. That shows how people can set different standards for themselves and have cheat days. A teacher should understand that the way to stop their students from smoking is to stop the desire. Punishment does not deter adolescents effectively. It also is easy for minors to get tobacco. More resources should be put towards convincing adolescents not to smoke than punishing those who
