Children that live in poor neighborhoods and are not supervised by adults are more likely to begin sexual activity early (BEE BOYD 281). With high percentages of young teens having sex, contraception use is very important. Sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy can occur with unprotected sex. Sex education is a concern for some parents, others embrace it. Adults against this education believe it will add sexual interest to teens who are not currently sexually involved. Teenagers have two contradictory tasks in their relationships with their parents: to establish autonomy from them and to maintain a sense of relatedness with them (BEE BOYD 323). Friendships become more important to teens, with technology, teens are able to communicate at all hours of the day and night with each other. Friendships can be a positive influence or negative influence on adolescences. Typically, adolecense choose to associate with a group that shares their value, attitides, behavior, and identity status. When these values drive individuals towards adaptive development outcomes, peers become an important source of reinforcement (BEE BOYD
