Of the numerous therapeutic approaches that we have been exposed to this semester, the Behavior Therapy is most preferred. Due to my background in ABA I could relate and grasp the behavior therapy techniques and procedures. Miltenberger (2012) and Wilson (2011),state that the procedures are used in the fields of developmental disabilities, mental illness, education and special education, community psychology, clinical psychology, rehabilitation, business, self-management, sports psychology, clinical psychology, health-related behaviors, medicine, and gerontology (pp.247). The Adlerian perspective, human behavior is not determined solely by heredity and environment. Instead, we have the capacity to interpret, influence, and create events. Adlerian’s put the focus on reeducating individuals and reshaping society (Corey, 2013, pp.104). Mosak and Maniacci (2011) state that “the Adlerian is interested not in curing sick individuals or sick society but reeducating individuals and in reshaping society” (pg. 78). The Adlerian approach is unique that in giving special attention to the relationships between siblings and the psychological birth position in one’s family. Through the process of providing clients with a new cognitive map,” a fundamental understanding of the purpose of their behavior, counselors assist them in changing their perceptions (Corey, 2013, pp.109-110). The Adlerian theory has some potential drawbacks for clients form those cultures who are not interested in exploring past hood experiences, early memories, family experiences, and dreams. I, like other some clients may not see the effectiveness of this approach due to not understanding the purpose of exploring the details of a lifestyle analysis when dealing with life’s current problems. Another reason I do not care for this particular approach, is that if I am a client and have a pressing problem I may be a little hesitant or resistant to discuss areas of my life that I do not see as a connection to the struggle that brought me to therapy in the first
