Adeline In 'A Farewell's Chinese Cinderella'

Depressing means causing someone to feel sad or without hope. In the book Chinese Cinderella the main character Adeline, a young girl, is put down, persecuted, wipped, assaulted, and made fun of. Reading about all of the things that happened to Adeline throughout her childhood made me feel bad for her, and made me feel sad that this was a real story. Chinese Cinderella was a page turning book because it made you want to read more, and see what happens to Adeline in the end.
Its sad that a little girl named Adeline comes to school acting like she comes from a loving family when she actually doesn’t. When everyone followed Adeline home from school and comes to Adeline’s house and she was thinking to herself “scared her secret was going to explode”. pg.113 Everyone was going to find out that she is not loved and is treated horribly. the secret was going to come out and everyone would know how horribly Adeline’s family treats her. Adeline thought to herself “I couldn’t possibly tell them how ugly and worthless Niang made me feel.” pg Adeline has never had the feeling of being loved. Nobody believes in Adeline and acts like she is not present.

When The maid tells Adeline to go up to the holy of holies Niang slaps Adeline and calls her a “Liar”pg 114. She is getting physically abused by her own stepmother. When she has to go down to tell everyone to leave you can see blood dripping slowly down her face. Niang is saying to Adeline “ You planned it didn’t you to show off your house to your penniless little classmates. How dare you,” and Adeline didn’t do anything wrong pg.114. Her friends showed up to throw a surprise party for her trying to be nice but Adeline end up to blame for what happened. Niang obviously doesn’t believe anything Adeline has to say because of how worthless she treats
