The serpent talks to Eve and tries to convince her by telling her that “ ye shall be as gods” if she eats the apple (Genesis 3:5). Eve wants to be like gods and see the world through good and evil. She decides to disobey God and eat the forbidden apple, but she listens to the voice of the serpent and does what he says. It shows that it is a myth because it explains why hubris exists. Eve had the whole Garden of Eden and could eat anything she wanted, besides the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, she did not have to work, did not have to feel pain or fear. That still was not good enough for her, she still had the desire for more. The human trait of hubris was that she wanted to be like gods and was unsatisfied with the way her life was going. Eve was looking at the tree and admiring it’s beauty. She really liked the way the tree looked, and thought it was pleasing to the eyes. The tree was supposedly to “make one wise” (Genesis 3:6). The human trait of hubris, here would be arrogance, thinking that she should have more. Eve is not satisfied with her life or anything because she is hubris and always wants more than she can have.
