Rebecca Thomas and her husband are expecting and they are very overjoyed. As new parents they are afraid of having a miscarriage. After Rebecca past her 12th week mark of when miscarriages can occur they felt a relief. During her eighth week ultrasound her baby wasn’t fully developed so he resembled a sea creature alien look alike. During her pregnancy she felt him move and heard his heart beat just as if he was a normal baby like everyone else’s. As days went by they started to plan and get things ready for his arrival. At their 20-week appointment Rebecca Thomas and her husband was expecting a beautiful baby boy as they was told they were having a baby with fetal birth defect. Her baby had no abnormalities findings at 9 weeks or 11 weeks but around 12 weeks her baby was diagnosed with Acrania and at 14 weeks there was anencephaly. During his early stages of development his skull never formed the whole top and back part of his skull simply didn’t exist. This verified that the progression from the Acrania to anencephaly. This meant the brain was either entirely normal or at varying degrees of distortion and disruption. The etiology for Acrania is a failure to the migration of the ectodermal mesenchyme or the disruption of amniotic bands with the prognosis of being uniformly fatal. This meant the child would not have a chance of surviving once it is born. There is no treatment for this type of deformity besides abortion, termination or delivering the baby with faith in god for his survival throughout this process. According to studies there are no medical treatment besides those stated above. Most doctors referred to abortion or termination to prevent the suffering amongst families and the baby.
