Rain occurs when condensed moisture in the atmosphere falls to the ground in separate, visible drops and it provides us with another source of water and can be used to provide plants with water such as in rainforests or countryside. The hydrologic cycle allows for rain to form and pour down in different areas. Water from oceans, swamps, lakes, rivers are evaporated and turn into water vapor due to the water being heated by the sun or other means. This water vapor rises into the troposphere (where most weather phenomena occur) and cools as it ascends. When it condenses, the water vapor become water droplets that form clouds. Then, precipitation occurs and water droplets fall as rain or cool down even further and become snow. This precipitation is absorbed by the ground and used by plants or runs into a river. If the water is absorbed by a plant, the water then evaporates into the air as water vapor from the plants surface. Water that runs into rivers are carried to lakes, oceans, or ponds where they evaporate again. Thus, the cycle continues (ETE Team). Due to pollution and gas emissions from factories and cars, we are now seeing acid rain. …show more content…
Acid rain is caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide which can be released in different ways. Both Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NO) are primarily released by human sources such as electricity generation, factory emissions and motor vehicles. Energy generation through the process of burning coal is a primary contributor to gaseous pollutions that cause acid rain. These gases can travel hundreds of kilometers before deposited in the form of acid rain. Natural phenomena can also release SO2 and NO such as that volcanic eruptions release sulfur dioxide while electric activity in the atmosphere can produce nitrogen
