This pottery is a 38.1 centimetre high, oval shaped, red-figured stamnos made of moulded, fired clay with slip painted figurines and a black hue. Made between 450BC-440BC in Attica, Greece the composition is attributed to the Achilles Painter.
Front. A bearded warrior holds a spear and wears a short chiton and a decorated cuirass. The warriors armour includes greaves, helmet, sword at waist and shield on arm. To the left he shakes hands with another bearded man holding a staff and wearing a long chiton and mantle. A hound stands in the background. To the right, a woman with hair tied up wears a Doric chiton and apoptygma. Holding a phiale in her left hand an oinochoe hangs from her right.
