Academically Ready For College

Improved Essays
As a current senior in high school, the time of graduation can be stressful and I am finally figuring out what I want to do with my life. The only reason I was able to do this was because of the great education I have gotten at CAL. I have learned more than just what textbooks and charts can show. I learned about life lessons and without them I do not know if I would be able to say I am academically and emotionally ready for college. I am planning on attending Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After I receive my degree in Business Management, I plan on attending Southeastern Louisiana State University to finish my degree and earn my Bachelors in Business as well as minor in Political Science. The teachers at CAL have helped tremendously

There are so many students out there in low-income communities who do not know what it is like to have someone who wants to see them succeed, someone who wants to see them achieve regardless of their race or economic status. I seek to join Teach for America for many reasons and three of those reasons are; for one, I want to help make a difference in the lives of students, I want the students that I encounter to know that I care about their education, I want to see them succeed and I want them to know that I have very high expectation of them. Secondly, growing up in a low-income community myself, I can relate to these students. I want my students to know that just because they are currently living in an underserved community, it does not mean…

There are several practices that allow a student to be more successful in college. Every individual is different and there will be variations in study technique, but one of the most vital ways a student can be successful is to put in the time. Time ties into many successful practices such as putting in the time to study, not procrastinating, and allotting certain time every day to dedicate to school work. Many professors present a recommendation of how many hours of study time should be put in for every hour of class time. A successful student will take that recommendation and use it to their advantage.…

I contemplated about the amount of information I was willing to disclose in this first writing assessment about myself. A life lesson I learned the hard way was, the more people know about you the more they can harm you. Not to say that anything I share in this paper will be used against me, but I have become very sceptical about sharing personal information. For as long as I can remember I have always been a social butterfly never having trouble making friends in any environment. What I did not realize that instead of being myself, which was what ultimately drew people to my personality, I became a people pleaser.…

I was born in Germany with a German mother and an American father. The benefit of being born into a German family and living in Europe for the first ten years of my life was the greatest privilege I experienced throughout my sixteen years of living. However, my father was in the military at the time causing for a slight pressure to always be prevalent for the duration of my younger years. This mainly revolved around the fact that my sister was able to grow up in Germany and I wanted that same opportunity. Soon after these aspirations were formed, they became mere dreams that never would be fulfilled because my dad was given orders to either move to Mississippi or Oklahoma, which both deemed to be the middle-of-nowhere.…
