Abuela Invents The Zero Essay

Do you ever wonder how different cultures treat the young and the old. Believe it or not it all depends on what status you have in the world that determines this. In the short stories “Home” and “Abuela invents the Zero” you can see where the social classes play big roles. In both of these stories however, something happens to one of yevgeny and constance's family member. This changes there thinking of the way to treat elders and the young. Judging from what the book and personal experience, social class usually determines the way you treat family. As I was saying in the introduction, social class plays a big role in the way that people treat family. In the short story “Home”, Yevgenny Byshorsky is a judicial worker. Because of this he has a high ranking in the town he lives in. Yevgenny is always gone from his son. Yevgenny finds out his son, Seroshga, is smoking. This bring out the parent in Yevgenny , but his son doesn’t listen to him because he is always away from home. Yevgenny helps Seroshga stop by telling him a sad story about smoking that scares him to the core. All in all, Yevgenny changes for the better when he finds out he has to solve a family problem and his work/social standing doesn’t get in the way. …show more content…
She does not like to be around her grandmother in public. This is shown in the text in the first paragraph when it stated “ While we were walking, I made sure to walk far behind them so nobody thought I was with them”. Another example is when she had to take her grandmother to church, she didn’t help her walk to get communion or help her find her way back to her seat.
