President Lincoln not only had an impact with the words that he spoke, but he had just as big an impact when he was silent. “... there is no question that Lincoln’s life, leadership, and principles profoundly shaped the course of this nation’s history” (Stepman). Lincoln did not need to speak just to leave an impact. His entire life Americans learned from him and found new ways to become a better person. His words were so powerful, people around the world noticed him. “But Lincoln’s words, heard by comparatively few, by themselves carried power across time and around the world” (Sorenson). Even though a small amount of people heard what Lincoln had to say, everyone around the world understood the power that he had. President Lincoln’s legacy is supported throughout the world. When Lincoln was younger, he struggled with multiple hardships that altered his mindset. “Historians generally agree that Lincoln suffered from clinical depression, part of a lifelong struggle with mental health issues” (Hampson). This quote really proves that Abe Lincoln was not in the right shape to be the president. It is very hard to overcome a mental breakdown and depression. Many people never overcome these conditions and if they do, they are never the same. Because Lincoln did not have the access to the right doctors and correct treatment, he was forced to deal with these conditions himself by telling jokes and reading sad poems (Hampson). There is no way that Lincoln could have possibly treated himself just by telling himself jokes. Most people who have mental breakdowns never recover after being seen by a real doctor, so it is hard to believe that Lincoln fully recovered after treating himself. Anyone who has multiple mental breakdowns at that young of an age definitely needs to see a specialist that can take care of them.
The legacy that Abraham Lincoln left for American society is very satisfying. Millions of Americans benefited from Lincoln and they try to be a big as an influence as he was. President Lincoln's legacy is very positive. He faced many challenges and obstacles as a president. Also, he did not need to speak to show his impact, but his entire life created the legacy
