Abraham Lincoln's Personal Beliefs

Abraham Lincoln has generally been known as one of the United States greatest president that has served because he sacrificed his personal beliefs to achieve many great things that has made our country what it is today. For example, before the Civil War happened Lincoln did everything in his power to try and stop it from happening but when he couldn’t make it happen he put all of his effort into trying to heal our broken nation. During Lincoln’s presidency if he didn’t honestly believe in our Union, America would not have been well off after Lincoln’s death in 1865. If it wasn’t for his optimism for the future of our nation and his high dedication, we would not be the Great United States we are today. When Lincoln was president he always put the well-being of his country before his own personal beliefs and convictions. Although his policies sometimes worked alongside with his personal beliefs and other times they were contradictions, and even though this happened he always chose the best thing for the country and not just for himself. Lincoln always had a way of making the war about the union and not slavery, he wouldn’t explain the differences between the two but the similarities that they shared. To make his plan work he needed to convince the South he wasn’t trying to take their freedom away by explaining to them that he wasn’t going to bother doing anything that dealt with slavery.
