Imagine walking down the road, and a wild man jumped out and stole your wallet. The story “Thank you Ma'am” About Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a woman who’s pocket book was attempted to be stolen by a boy, and is going to teach him a life-long lesson. The author teaches the theme throughout the story that being truthful and kind will avoid negative situations.

Using the characters in the story, the author proves the theme in multiple ways. To start, the young thief Roger attempts to steal the purse and fails. The story “My heart-Christ’s home” about a man who is showing Jesus around his heart as if in a home, shows the same theme. First, In the hall closet, The man holds his most treasured earthly items. Jesus wants to clean the room out and rid the closet of its rotten smell but the man did not want Jesus to see them. While Jesus was talking to the man about this he knew exactly what he was talking about, “In that closet behind lock and key I had one or two personal things I did not want anybody to know about. Certainly I did not want Christ to see them.” explaining his truthfulness about not wanting to admit the items to Jesus. After talking, the man asks Jesus if Jesus is willing to clean the closet out for him, and he is gladly willing to. Lastly, after Jesus turns the man's heart around the man is kind to Jesus. He wants to turn the title deed of his house to him. The man says to Jesus, “Could I give to you the responsibility of keeping my heart how it ought to be and myself doing what I ought to be doing.” Instead of the man keeping his heart to himself and shutting out Christ, he is kind to him.
