The first step in arguing for or against abortion begins with deciding when a baby still encapsulated inside of a women becomes an individual owning the same rights as the mother herself. Using the lens and beliefs of a Christian, the individuality of a fetus occurs at conception. From the moment that a new genetic code is formed, the process of a newly crafted individual with a human body and mind has already gone underway. Jeremiah 1:5 says that “before [God] shaped [us] in the womb, [He] knew all about [us]” and He “had holy plans for [us].” The argument that a person is not a person until a body, beating heart and active mind are formed is refuted in this one verse. The second alternative for abortion is to keep the baby and become a parent. Unfortunately this option is not nearly as commonly chosen as abortion. Choosing to raise the child over abortion or adoption is a sacrifice of “convenience” and a significant act of selflessness which, in turn, rewards itself: the blessing of a child’s adoration and love. In the case of a teen pregnancy, there are several contributors that help to encourage the mother to keep the baby as her own. “The attitudes, relationships, and support of…people greatly influence a pregnant teen’s decision on whether to undergo an abortion or become a parent” (Yuen 3) and could be the tie-breaker in a baby’s chance of
