APU Personal Statement

I hail from a very small town (roughly 2000 people) called Walkerton in northern Indiana. My adventure started my junior year of high school. It was at this time I decided that I wanted to major in film production in college. In Indiana there is really no school that is well known for film, and I knew in order to take this career decision seriously I needed to head to California. It was after this realization that my girlfriend, a senior, mentioned she was considering Azusa Pacific University. Due to financial reasons she was unable to attend after she graduated, however, after researching the school I found the school to have an excellent film program and I knew that is where I needed to go. I seriously had considered attending USC, and academic wise I most likely would have gotten accepted; however, my own family’s financial situation would not allow for this. Although financials did play a role in the decision, I did not feel a true call to USC, I felt I really was being called to APU. Even after feeling this call to APU I struggled with making the big steps to moving to a place where I know no one. Even though I am missing the presence of family, if I wouldn’t have came I knew I would have still been having an empty …show more content…
My mom, bless her heart, is not a good city driver, and gets nervous in new places; this is why having Evan with us would be a tremendous help to us both. We were able to have fun seeing sights and we were able to smoothly move me into my dorm room. In our moments together my brother-in-law gave me pieces of advice he had learned when he was on his own. He helped me to be unafraid of being by myself. However, he was not my only mentor during this process. My biggest mentor my entire life has been my mom. During our time here, she gave me advice about knowing when to call for help, knowing I had people I could talk to. Having to say goodbye to her has been the hardest thing I have ever had to

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. My dad and sister are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did provides us with a unique bond. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for oneself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, extremely strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it worthwhile. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm.…

My interest in teaching began four years ago after completing my undergraduate degree in Public Health and has since developed after my first motherhood experience. My commitment to pursuing a career as an educator was established during my maternity leave, where I had time to reflect on going back to school. I was mostly inspired by my family’s ardor for education and by the encouragement of the executive director at my job who wishes to mentor me into the leadership world of Early Childhood…

Becoming an AGPCNP will provide me with the knowledge and training to safely and effectively treat adult patients across the lifespan. Although I entered this program planning to work as an FNP, experiences during the pre-specialty year have confirmed my passion for the adult patient. Specifically, I hope to serve rural communities as a primary care provider, focusing my practice on the management of chronic disease in older adults. My passion for older adults is rooted in the experiences I had throughout the summers of my undergraduate career. I spent my summers with a nonprofit in rural North Carolina partnering with churches, social workers, and businesses to complete home repair for low-income families.…

An opportunity that added value to my educational experience has been participating in the honors society program. This has enabled me to gain more knowledge about the field of psychology. By enlisting myself into the program I agreed to maintain an above average GPA and I would volunteer a minimum of 30 hours of my time to my community. I liked this because it forced me to push myself and put me around others that also dedicated their time to academics.…

The University of Southern California is a top notch facility with premier applicants from every corner of the world, each with something that is essential to understanding them. As for myself, I feel as if my story would not be complete without telling the tale of my rural upbringing. Coming from a modest town of 2,144 residents in northwest Indiana, my day to day experiences have been a lot different than those I would encounter in Los Angeles, California. While going from being surrounded by people who ride their donkeys to school to being surrounded by people who ride their long boards to school would be quite a culture shock, it is exactly the type of adjustment I need to transition into my adult life. Although the environment I grew…

True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…
