ACSM-FITT Recommendations

Improved Essays
Five components of a well-rounded physical activity/exercise program are muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Each component has specific FITT principles: Frequency – how often?, Intensity – How hard of what level, Time (Duration), and Type. For cardiovascular endurance, the ACSM-FITT recommendations are: type – large muscle groups/rhythmic/continuous, intensity – 60-90% of maximum heart rate (MHR), time – 20-60 minutes for each bout, and frequency – about 3-5 days per week. In order to maintain or improve this component, one must perform exercises such as running, brisk walking, and jumping rope using these recommendations. For muscular endurance, the ASCM-FITT recommendations …show more content…
Cardiovascular endurance is the most important. People work on during daily activities such as gardening or house cleaning are using their heart and in order to gain strength and endurance one has to improve heart health. Muscular endurance is a branch off of cardiovascular endurance because if there is not muscular strength then it deters the length of time a person can perform a certain activity. Muscular strength is important because in day to day activities such as getting out the bed, would be hard if we did not try to improve our muscular strength. I think it goes hand in hand with physical therapy because when a person breaks a leg or arm if they are older, muscular strength is important to get the body back to “normal.” I disagree with the components such as flexibility and body composition. Flexibility should be more of a warm up component because stretching is an important part, but I think that warming up and stretching together would be a better format of that component. Body composition is the ultimate goal of a person working out majority of the time to improve or maintain a certain part of the body. I just think that is the overall goal of fitness so it should not be an individual component. This should be taken out or used as an optional component when a person is focusing on a specific part of the body while still using the other 4

Twenty meter sprints are an applicable fitness test for the chosen fitness components because it is able to determine acceleration, maximum running speed and speed endurance. However these aspects vary depending of the distance tested over. Vertical jumps tests are effective when testing the strength of the leg muscles as you are required to jump as high as you can from the push from your legs. In order to reach the fitness goals and improve and maximise test results, at least four to five training sessions need to be implemented to achieve noticeable results. However there are only four periods of sport science per week, creating a limitation to the results…

Hello Professor Maule and class, FITT principles are all related to an exercise program, that typically stands for frequency, intensity, type and time. I believe, most health and wellness professionals focus on the time principle, of this exercise program because overall, this factor reveals how much the client is actually exercising and the duration period. To better understand this fitness plan, the frequency principle factor is important to the physical fitness and strength of the client. Generally, in order for the human body to regain it's strength and health status to a better standing, it is best to exercise at least three-five days a week. In addition, increasing your heart rate to a healthy cardiovascular rate is healthy…

Muscular endurance is key to may sports, sports where intermittent exercise is performed, such as rugby or basketball, intermittent training is appropriate. Sports where a continuous exercise output is required, such as a marathon, continuous training is appropriate. Exercise has beneficial effects in patients with cardiovascular disease, even for those with severely impaired cardiac function, and that physical inactivity accelerates the severity of heart failure. ( Ulrik Wisløff, PhD; Ashjørn Støylen, MD, PhD; Jan P. Loennechen, 2007 ) The purpose of this experiment is to compare and contrast Continuous and intermittent exercise, it is hypothesized that the participants will be able to work longer and have a greater power output well performing intermittent exercise.…

Summarise why you prescribed the exercises you did & intensities/frequencies etc (use your needs assessment & 8 ACSM guidelines to support your choices) I have prescribed the exercises I have in order for my client to meet her goals in improving her lower and upper strength and for such improvements to be reflected in various tests (grip strength and single leg wall sit). Thus my program entails exercises that are resistance based to build muscle strength overall. I have also prescribed a series of stretches in order to improve my client’s flexibility which is another goal of her (improve in sit and reach test). Such stretches will be performed post aerobic cool down to make sure my client is at the right body temperature that is safe to perform…

There are six different exercise principles that everyone must know and understand, which are overload, progression, specificity, individual differences, use/disuse, and adaptability. Consequently, overload happens when increased demands are made upon the body. One must increase fitness levels one must do what one is accustomed to. There are also four ways to overload, which are frequency, intensity, time, and type. Frequency refers to how often one exercise, intensity refers to how hard one exercise, time refers to how long one exercise, and type refers to the type of exercise that is performed.…

The acronym FITT stands for Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type of training. This acronym describes the essentials to working out and staying in shape. It is important to keep up the frequency of your workouts in a week, try to do many different intensities not just all out, depending on your goal time varies but make sure to do the appropriate amount for the workout you’re doing, and finally make sure you know the type of workouts you should be doing to reach your intended endpoint. If someone is working out and follows FITT as a guideline they will most like be successful in reaching their fitness goal. Identify two components of fitness for which you were strongest (indicate the component of fitness, the related fitness test and your score for each test). For each of the two fitness tests you mentioned, what was one physical sign that you were pushing yourself? Numerous sports have evolved since they were originally developed. Helmets, pads, and forward passes were added to football to prevent serious injury. Various rules, such as an open-bottomed net, were created to increase the tempo of basketball. However, the average adult may believe that the sport of cross-country doesn’t appear to have evolved from its origins; if they looked closely they would be surprised. To gain an insight from this sport’s past and present, I will compare distances, practices, and amount of competitors between cross-country in the 1980’s and now.…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it. I am not an active person; however, over the past two years, I decided to exercise five days a week and 40 minutes everyday, except for the weekends. In one hour, I would do a 20 minutes warm-up consisting: 20 jumping jacks, 20 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, 10 bicycle crunches, and 10 power lunges. Every Mondays, after my warm-ups, I would walk for one mile under 16 minutes.…
