Medication management can be given to some patient and is based on the severity of their headache. Acute pharmacological treatment includes NSAIDS, acetaminophen, triptans with or without NSAIDS combination, anti nausea medication, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine (DHE), butalbital and opioids (Toward, 2012). Opioids can be used no more than twice a week in patient with refractory migraine due to high risk of opioid dependence. NSAIDS such as Motrin, ketorolac may be used for mild to moderate headache and for those who cannot tolerate beta-blocker (Brashers, 2006).
