Have you ever read a book that showed true friendship throughout the whole book? In this essay I will be writing about how true friendship is shown in the book. A friend is considered to be person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection and a state of trust and support between each other. In A Separate Peace, there are two characters in this book which are Gene and Phineas that have a great bond with each other which is considered to be friendship. In this book, Gene and Finny show that they have a real friendship. For example, when Finny heard that his injury will end his sports career, Finny told Gene to play sports for him. Finny says,”Listen pal, if I can't play sports, you’re going to play them for me”(page 85). This is an example as true friendship because Finny wants Gene to play sports for him and play like Finny is with him. Another quote from the book that shows …show more content…
Finny says to Gene,” "It's you, pal," Finny said to me at last, "just you and me." He and I started back across the fields, preceding the others like two seigneurs”(page 17-18). This is an obvious example of friendship because this shows the bond Finny and Gene has as teammates and that they can count on each other. Last example that will prove Finny and Gene’s friendship, is when Gene started feeling stressed and guilty about Finny’s injury. Gene says, “I spent as much time as I could alone in our room, trying to empty my mind of every thought, to forget where I was, even who I was.
