A Place To Get Away-Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
Have you ever thought of somewhere that no one can bother you? When someone thinks of a place to get away, I automatically go to a place with my horse. This is because horses project this comfort kind of feeling. My horse makes me feel secure, like nothing can ever go wrong. There are some days that I will finish any school work with my horse beside me. Aspen is my horse’s name, so my secret to go place is with Aspen. The breeze in the wind, the sun reflecting off of my skin, with Aspen by my side can make my day go from despair to mind blowing.

Twenty-two years ago on January 4th, 1994, Taryn Staley was up at Finny Cumberlane to celebrate Gary’s, Taryn’s brother, fifteenth birthday. It was her mom, her step dad, her friend (Amy), Gary, her mom’s friend, four or five of Gary’s friends, and herself who traveled up the Finny Cumberlane mountain side. Their day was spent playing in the snow and snowboarding on the small, snow-capped mountain, but the day took a turn for the worse on their way home. “At 10:00 AM everyone met at our house in Burlington with their snowboarding gear, extra clothes, etc. We also loaded up a camp stove, pans, cups, cocoa and a pot of chile with freetos dip chips for lunch.…

Personal response:The book Solitary was a great book. The book had a lot of really descriptive words to described what happened in the story. I liked how the story described how Alex and his two friends, Zee and Simon, kill the Wheezer. It used so many descriptive words in that scene it almost seemed real. I really wondered what was going happen to them next.…

It is 7:23 a.m. on a Thursday morning, the pass allowing tardiness to first hour is tucked away in my tattered blue backpack. I sit in my car gazing at the quiet building. I have seven minutes to make it up the staircase, adorned with two lamp posts. I, along with many others, have visited Morgan Federal, the bank across the street, countless times and never realized just what was in the vicinity. A friend who works next door in the courthouse suggested I profile this place and gave the directions: “It’s in the old jail,” as if that was a common reference automatically understood.…

The Barn The sun is just starting to peek over the horizon, casting soft rays of light over the Earth and turning this usually chaos filled place, into a calm haven. Here I can clear my mind and enjoy simply being and breathing. This is an opportunity never able to be seized once the afternoon rush of people start trickling in. There is not a cloud in the sky and a cool breeze rustles the leaves of the trees. I make my way towards the barn to see my horse before I head off to school.…

It was one year ago when I step on the cage for the first time I had never been so scared before, until the day. The only thing I knew was that I had trained very hard and my instructor had told me to be relax, but it was not enough to keep myself calm. As I waited on the waiting room, the only thing in my mind was to win and pray so that everything came out the way I wanted it to be. My only goal was to impress my instructor, it depended on this fight whether I was going to keep fighting or not. Finally, I was called out loud in the speaker, and Andrew was the name of my contender, he weighed 135 pounds and a much taller guy than me…

I started to gain a larger respect for the art itself and the commitment and dedication to be able to build a team with a horse. I grew apart from my barn; but I still kept the family I made by riding there. I slowly started to distance myself from the show atmosphere at the barn and started to go to a small family barn instead. The barn was nestled in the Blue Ridge foothills in Sedalia, Virginia. I grew an admiration for the towering appalachian mountains that acted as my ring borders instead of pieces of stained oak.…

Haven It was cold and dark. I don’t know why I was still here. There was a large stray rock separate from the others clumped along the beach, so I made my way over to take a seat. At the beginning of the conversation I again said that I was not in no way, giving a demand but I was asking for the transfer. Y/N steps out of her favorite takeout place, the plastic bag full of deliciously hot food heavy in her hand, and silently thanks the universe that the little restaurant is open nearly 24/7. She usually isn’t one to get takeout at two in the morning, but with the day she had, she needs it. She turns on her heel, ready to begin the walk to her apartment, but she stops dead in her tracks when she sees that it is pouring. Her shoulders sag slightly at the thought of walking home in wet clothes, but the rain is actually a welcome relief to the hot, clingy humidity that had been present before the rain began to fall.…
