A & P Conflict Analysis

The conflict lies within Sammy who is worried he will end up like his co-worker married with children working as a cashier. Sammy is working as a cashier at A&P when 3 girls walk in the store in their swim suits. He is very intrigued and appalled when his boss scolded them for not being fully dressed. Sammy in an attempt to impress them quits his job but soon realizes they were not around to see him to do so. Sammy is dreamy, but Queen is detached and in her own world. She is in the story to reinforce his character and create conflict. Stocks and Lengel also add to his conflict. Sammy learns a painful lesson, but he does not change.
The antagonist was "Queenie" and her friends.
