Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…
It was as though god himself was speaking to me and telling me to trust him. At this point the doubt in my mind went away and I knew I was in good hands. Fast forward to December 2nd, 2014 surgery day I'm now 23. I was referred to LA keck hospital where I would be getting double surgery To repair my valves (Mitral&tricuspid) and my pectus. I was nervous but I was ready I knew god was going to take care of me.…

Not many 8 year olds can say they were a manager of a varsity baseball team like i can. Everyday I would go to practice and I would help set up the field for the stuff that the team would be doing that day. During the practice i would do the practice with the team. Trey Lee was the only one who took time and effort in trying to help me improve my baseball skills. Trey made a huge impact on me, he has been a huge part of my life ever since then.…
On Sunday June 4th, I went to a local community park called Riverview Memorial Park located in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. The Riverview Memorial Park is a stage that performers can use which the pastor did which provided benches on the ground facing the stage. There is also a big pavilion with benches as well for people to sit. At this park, my boyfriend’s pastor was having a gathering with music and some readings from poems and verses from the Bible. The purpose of this gathering was to have people from around the community come together for an hour and sit back and enjoy the atmosphere that surrounds us and try to start your new week on a good note with having God by your side.…
Never had attended WYD before, I wasn’t sure what to expect of the 3week immersion nor what outcomes would come from this experience. I had just graduated from San Francisco State and was preparing to move back home. Although, I was excited to see my family and begin my new life as a post-grad, I was also nervous about the transition. So as I got on that plane to Europe my heart was heavy with emotions of uncertainty and doubt. The first few days praying in Gyor, Hungry were difficult.…
“We are the music makers, and the dreamer of dreams”- Gene Wilder . This quote describes who I am today and why i’m so passionate about music. The first thought that I thought of was “I must be in heaven.” “No babygirl you aren’t in heaven just yet. God wasn’t ready for you to leave us just yet.” , my mom said to me as she walked towards the hospital bed. I didn’t even realized that I was talking out loud until she said that back to me.…
I know humanity to live in a state of brokenness. Article VII of the “Confession of Faith” in our Book of Discipline uses different language to echo this view: “We believe man is fallen from righteousness…” (Book of Discipline ¶104 72). Bishop Scott J. Jones states it this way: “[H]uman beings have a corrupted nature” (Jones 151). My experience in ministry exposes me to this brokenness quite often.…
My identity has been shaped by my mother’s and sisters’ example in living the gospel. My mother’s knowledge of the scriptures and application of them into her life developed the basis of my identity. My eldest sister’s involvement in uplifting church music helped me to develop such wonder musical talents. My second eldest sisters faith and testimony of Jesus Christ was an essential development of my identity, making me who I am today.…
There was once an exceptionally special person in my life, one who was the most honest down to earth person I know, and my role model. Every academic assignment I received, even in kindergarten, he would teach me beyond expected for that entire grade. How to draw, love and care for animals, and have an unconditional love for everyone around me are just a few of the traits he taught me. Every single day, no matter what, throughout my life, he said to treat all with kindness, and that simply talking to someone who seemed unhappy could turn his or her entire life around. I would sit in my room for hours and read encyclopedias all about random topics to try to become as smart as he was.…
Shaking uncontrollably, I stretched out my arms to hold my little sister’s warm hands. Her brown eyes stared into mine, then at my mother’s caskets. She was confused. She was only four. She barely knew our mother or the concept of death.…
