A Narrative Essay About How To Read

Reading had always been a difficulty in my life. All children begin learning how to read at the educational level of first and second grade, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me. It all began in second grade. Sitting around the big red table we waited for our teacher, Mrs. Guzman. She stood in front of the bookshelf to find a book for us to read. She pulled out the Magic Tree House book Tonight on the Titanic. She began by reading “Jack opened his eyes. It was a stormy night. The rain tapped hard on his window pane.” After reading the first page, she stopped and waited for next person to continue. I couldn’t tell her that I can’t read since she wouldn’t be happy with me after all the reading she did with me at night. I lied to her and said that nothing happened. As soon as we got home, I rushed from the door to the dining room table to start with homework. I began to take out my books and opened my agenda when I realized that I still had to show my mother the note. I put my agenda back in my bag, so that way she wouldn’t read it. She walked out of her room and grabbed my agenda and flipped through it when she came across the note. Staring at her I couldn’t tell what she was feeling, whether it was anger or worry for me. Without a word she closed the agenda and put the note aside. She then pulled out my Math workbook and we began. Later in the evening, father came home with treats for my mother and I. After giving us kisses and talking about our days, my mother closed the door to the room and I went back to the living room to watch television.
